Role

Our Data and ML Scientists are a critical part of our technology team. We are looking for an individual who will help us work on a wide range of computational challenges such as: constrained time series forecasting, planning, campaign management and yield optimisation. Future challenges will include items around NLP and EPG’s + VOD catalogues.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to data science projects and models whilst also ensuring they deliver business value and solve industry wide problems

• Rapidly design, prototype and test many possible hypotheses in a high-ambiguity environment, making use of both quantitative analysis and business judgment

• Leverage your knowledge around data sources, data organisation, cleansing and modelling to build data model pipelines to power TVBeat’s products.

• Using your vision to identify, specify and implement opportunities for automation and other ways to improve efficiency, monitoring and intelligence

• Work with the Product and Engineering team to build robust, lasting, and scalable products Iterate quickly without compromising quality 

Standards

• Understanding of API, data and processing pipeline design on all levels and with good guiding principles

• A type-based approach to API design: striving to write code that can be checked for correctness and consistency by the compiler

• Focus on API ergonomics, usability, and performance

• Ability to give and accept feedback on proposed solutions and implementations

• Rust (our web services are written using Actix)

• A combination of specialized in-house data storage engines, Redis, and SQLite

• Data Science tooling (R/Python/SaS/Knime)

• Nix for builds & deployments

• Angular and React for the front-end

• You are results oriented and analytical, with a client and business focus.

• Ability to communicate and discuss technical topics with both technical and business audiences.

• You are able to propose changes in our data practices and processes to improve effectiveness of the team, and lower any risk associated with accurate data delivery.

• Knowledge of statistical reliability, engineering risk analysis, queueing theory, and analysis of time processes

• A demonstrable, inquisitive passion for data.

• You love to promote the culture of experimentation and science!

Qualifications

• 4+ years ML industry experience or 3+ years ML industry experience + MS and/or PhD Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Minimum MSc education in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) BSc would be considered with additional and demonstrable experience

• Experience programming in Rust, C++, Python or related language

• Experience of building machine learning models for business application

• Programming skills sufficient to extract, transform, and clean large (multi-terabyte) data sets in a Unix/Linux environment.

• Detailed and demonstrable experience in working with large scale data systems, data sources, organisation and storage. In addition to conceptual, logical and physical data modelling and flow.

• Experience of working within an iterative SDLC (spells of 2 weeks from design to deploy)
